Getting Here
The journey to Maldives is incomplete without a visit to Maafushi and the excitement starts as soon as a person lands at Velana International Airport (MLE) located on one separate island next to the Capital i.e., Male city. The two available means of reaching Maafushi from the airport are public ferry and scheduled speedboat. It would depend upon the budget and time whether one should take up a public ferry or scheduled speedboat because the former is much cheaper but later is way too faster.
The cheapest way to do this is to take the 10-minute ferry from the airport to Malé and from Malé ferry terminal, to take a cab to Vilingili Ferry Terminal at the other end of the city. The public ferry to Maafushi leaves from here. There's a 90-minute journey further to travel – quite scenic through local company till Maafushi travelers should mind though, this ferry does not operate on Fridays.
Most probably, the very easy way to do it is by pre-arranging speedboat transfer. There are lots of companies such as iCom Tours and Maafushi Tours that maintain regular speedboats and these can be booked before the journey. The very big advantage is that many times you can board these speedboats right from the airport's ferry pier without going all the way into Malé city. The journey by speedboat takes only about 30-40 minutes, of which the majority of time you travel directly onto the main jetty at Maafushi, a few minutes' walk away from Leisure Boutique Hotel. Your hotel can as well be the medium to help you make a booking on one of these speedboats.
